: With out seeing it hard to tell. But suspect it means infection was more than a common cold. Was COVID and flu tested for?  Or it was a virus and the antibiotic led rot overgrowth of bad buds. Discuss with dr who has looked at the x-ray and knows what is going aound in your part of the world in boys like him

can a bipap cause pneumonitis?

Haven't heard of it: Anything is possible so it's best to check with the pulmonary or sleep medicine doctor who started the bipap. Bipap can cause stomach bloating, so if one were to reflux acidic fluid more easily, he could get chemical pneumonitis if small amounts of the fluid got into the lungs. Maybe the outward flow of lung mucus is altered, which might decrease his ability to prevent viral/bacterial pneumonitis.
