Not recommended: Pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) has a component salycelate that was linled with a devistating disease called reye's syndrome in the 70's & 80's. After physicians stopped recomending salycelate products there was a rapid decline in the frequency of that problem. Discuss your concern with your physician for the best possible comfort meds.

No, : No, you should not.  Pepto-bismol contains Bismuth Subsalicylate which should not be used for children under age 12. However, children's pepto antacid  uses calcium carbonate as the active ingredient and is safe for children.

hello doctor. how are you? i have a few pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) tablets that expired one year ago.i have a really bad stomach ache.. is it safe to take a pill?

Would use new: generally good policy not to take expired medications,  and I would get fresh antacids, or even try household baking soda if you feel this is from stomach acid. If recurrent, see MD. Ulcers (?aspirin/motrin), infection (e.g. H pylori), gall stones, etc may need to be considered. Seek MD esp if red flags eg increasing nausea/vomit, blood/melena (black stools), anemia, weight loss, fever

Needs more informati: If you have upset somach with diarrhea than it may help, if that's your poop problem, but if you are constipated it will not help and may make it worse.But it is not a medicine avail;able over the counter for prevention of your stomach aches and poop.If you have that recurrent problem consult your doctor or a gastroenterologist.

Kind of pain?: Is it crampy or do you feel like you have to go to the bathroom but are unable?  Is the pain all over or in one place?  Best to see your doctor.  They can begin a workup and test the stool for blood.  If positive you will need a endoscopy/colonoscopy.  Ideally you would like o know what is causing your pain before you treat it

Depends: You should not use the adult pepto. It contains salycelates which are linked to Reye Syndrome in kids, a devastating  cause of liver failure and death. There is a Kids pepto, without salycelates. I encourage parents to avoid giving anything other than fluids and a bland diet.

May be Pepto, but...: Dark-colored stools may result from iron supplements, foods you eat (like a lot of spinach), substances (like peptobismol), but most significantly suggests bleeding. When blood is denatured by acid in your stomach, as from ulcers, stools will turn tarry ("melena"). Blood may also be ingested from nose bleeds, bleeding gums. Stop any nsaid's you're taking, &amp; ask your doctor to rule out occult blood

how can i help stomach ache/pain from antibiotic usage? i've taken cvs brand probiotics, but no relief. can i take tums/pepto? any other suggestions?

It depends...: ...a lot on the particular antibitoic(s) you are taking. Some can be taken with food or antacids to reduced stomach upset, but there are a few for which antacids may reduce absorption and effectiveness. Also, severe pain or diarrhea could mean a serious side effect that needs treatment. Contact the doctor or clinic where the antibiotic was prescribed.

i have had stomach  pain at night for the last three nights.  i wake up in great pain on my right side.  i take pepto bismal and this seems to help .?

Gallbladder?: If this is in the right upper abdominal area (plus minus fevers & chills) and after eating greasy/oily foods for dinner, this may be gallbladder disease. You should see your physician. In the meantime stay away from fried, oily, greasy foods.  (there are of course other possibilities...Either way a visit to your physician is in order).
