: It may, providing the infection is bacterial and bacteria involved is sensitive to penicillin. Not a first line antibiotic for sinus infections otherwise.

Abscess: If a dentist prescribed the antibiotics, then yet you should discuss your symptoms with that dentist. If you placed yourself on the antibiotics, there's even more reason to see a dentist as you need definitive treatment for the abscess- Antibiotics alone will not rid you of the abscess.  Your dentist might also suggest you see a physician if he/she thinks it necessary.

Sinusitis: If you are diagnosed with sinusitis, your doctor can prescribe several medicines that are able to be taken by someone allergic to penicillin and breastfeeding. If you just have sinus symptoms and want to take something from the store, you should be able to take an antihistamine for runny nose, breathe hot steam vapor for congestion and drink pleanty of fluids.

i am on the zpak & mucinex (guaifenesin) for a bad sinus infection. dr. said she could also give me a steroid shot. i am allergic to penicillin is the shot safe?

Steroids are safe: Steroids are anti-inflammatory.  Most people are not allergic to them. The steroid shot will help the inflammation in your sinuses and nose and is a normal treatment for the problems that you have. Sometimes a long course of steroid is used by mouth.

i've been battling sinus infections for a month. been on z pac and then penicillin for 10 days.  now have smell of stale cigarette smoke up in nose.

Sinusitis: Most likely due to inflammation from the sinusitis. Make sure to treat the sinusitis effectively  Sounds like you are on appropriate antibiotics at this point

my doctor said that if moxifloxacin 400mg taken once a day for 10 days doesn't help my sinus infection. then he will prescribe cefdinir. i have a history of severe allergic reaction including anaphylaxis to penicillin. is it safe to take cefdinir?

: Ideally we would not use medications like cefdinir in someone with anaphylaxis to penicillin. Make sure your prescribing doctor is aware of your allergy history.
