MS paresthesias: Multiple sclerosis parasthesias are abnormal sensations due to nerve damage by demyelination lesions.  Lesion means sensation. It is always there in mild, moderate or severe forms. The severity depends on the relapse, remission and use of analgesics. The patient may feel severe at relapse and not so much in between. But it is there. The numbness or tingling is the first sign.

See neurologist: Facial numbness can be caused by many items, including dental and jaw issues, viral involvement of cranial nerves, issues at base of brain.  Might consult with your dentist initially but if no answer, a neurologist can certainly help.  Facial numbness is not usually the presenting sign of ms&gt;.

Not always: No two people have exactly the same symptoms of MS due to the complexity of the disease. Some symptoms  may come and go, while others linger. Numbness and paresthesias are common symptoms. Don't let MS to control your life. Talk to pain management specialist to treat and manage your symptoms so you can stay healthy and productive. Yes, however: you should be seen by a Neurologist &amp; formally diagnosed w/this condition as there are other causes ie TIA &amp;/or stroke that could explain these symptoms.This is considered a medical emergency &amp; you should go to the ER right away if this just occurred. Signs &amp; symptoms of multiple sclerosis vary, depending on the location of affected nerve fibers.They may include:Numbness or weakness on 1 side.

can permanent ms damage still have symptoms with it that come and go? ie tingling, numbness off and on?left side is damaged and those things come/go

Comments: Fluctuating symptoms can occur, and some of these may involve "ephaptic short circuiting" due to loss of myelin insulation due to permanent damage.  This can easily be controlled and treated using some anti-epileptic drugs.  Need to exclude superimposed co-morbidity, such as nerve compressions, by EMG study, and check B-12.  Do you need a more potent medication??

during an ms relapse should my numbness get worse or better dependent on my position? could that mean it is something else?

Typically no: Symptoms during an ms relapse may vary based on body temperature, or even presence or absence of infection, but are not affected by posture unless located in neck, where flexion and/or extension can trigger electrical lhermitte's.  Ms pts may acquire co-morbidities such as carpal tunnel syndrome or b-12 deficiencies, but most true relapse symptoms are independent of position.

can numbness that is associated with ms be more like things becoming numb more easily rather than just things spontaneously going numb?

Numbness: MS has definite MRI findings so if concerned would recommend MRI. Any  numbness  would also consider vitamin deficiencies like B12 ,  carpal tunnel if in hands, Thoracic outlet if in last 3 digits of hand and side of  arm-i.e. compression issues.Would also  check thyroid, and electrolytes( like magnesium) f/u /w/ doc  .

Yes : MS numbness usually has some other kind of localize neurologic findings either weakness or loss of vision  Consult neurologist for specific diagnosis

i have ms and experiencing very severe head spins with slihhy numbness on right side that last 3-5 sec?  flair up?

Accepted Answer

Probable: You need to be examined by your neurologist, but the symptoms of very severe vertigo can be at attack. The short term nature of the event make it less likely.

Numbness in one half: There may be several causes other than MS
Diabetes
Stroke
Neuropathy etc
