A member asked:

Can permanent ms damage still have symptoms with it that come and go? ie tingling, numbness off and on?left side is damaged and those things come/go

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Comments: Fluctuating symptoms can occur, and some of these may involve "ephaptic short circuiting" due to loss of myelin insulation due to permanent damage. This can easily be controlled and treated using some anti-epileptic drugs. Need to exclude superimposed co-morbidity, such as nerve compressions, by EMG study, and check B-12. Do you need a more potent medication??
