: With abdominal CT studies, ovaries and descending colon are shown, but to be certain about ovarian possible abnormalities, an ultrasound of the lower abdomen (transvaginal U/S)  with contrast may be more accurate.

CT scan: The ct scan is one thing - the radiologist, who reads the ct scan another. Radiologists typically can interpret radiographic images the better the clinical information is that they get - in your case chronic constipation, firmness and fullness on left side of rectum.

Small tumour: Yes it is possible.  But such a small tumour would be very unlikely to cause the symptoms you describe.

Large abscesses: should be drained. CT is a good way to do that with ultrasound another option in certain cases.

It can, but...: If you or your doctor is concerned about a rectal mass or cancer inside the rectum, then probably the best test would be a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy (like a colonoscopy, but doesn't go up as far).

Physical Exam Best: The most common hernias of the abdominal wall include the groin/inguinal region, the umbilicus, and the upper-middle abdomen.  Hernias may also develop anywhere one has had an incision from prior surgery.  The best way to demonstrate a hernia is by physical examination.  If unclear, a ct may be helpful but it can miss hernias and, in the groin especially, may not differentiate a hernia from fat.

CT with contrast: CT is best given with contrast to achieve maximum evaluation of possible masses. Subtle findings can be missed without contrast.

had a pelvic/abd ct scan w/iv, rectal & oral contrast. how accurate for crc detection. have bleeding from internal hemorrhoids now. ct was 3 years ago?

Not Very: Ct colonography is a good screening test for colorectal cancer, but a routine ct (even with contrast) is not. Furthermore, a lot can develop in 3 years. I recommend that you meet w/your primary care doctor or a gastroenterologist to decide if a colonoscopy should be done.

could a hernia in the abdominal be mistaken as fat? the black area? in a ct of abdomem-pelvis w/oral contrast.

Hernias are gaps: Since a hernia itself is a gap in muscle or sometimes in the middle of other tissues fat and other things like intestine can squeeze through this gap. Fat in a hernia defect is not dangerous but can cause pain.Even a small amount of trapped fat can cause pain. This is why ct scans do not always help in diagnosing hernias as there are many areas of naturally occurring fat that are around muscles.
