That's normal.: When we first begin a rigorous exercise program, the first several pounds just fly right off, making us think that this whole diet and exercise thing is easy.  Before too long, with continued effort, we settle into the 1-2 pound per week expectation.

Possibly: losing weight may help you ovulate more regularly and this is the underlying problem with pcos.  If you ovulate more regularly you tend to produce less testosterone.  Likewise, not ovulating regularly (pcos) elevates your testosterone levels.  So, yes, losing weight may help.

PCOS losing weight: Sometimes weight loss can reverse PCOS. PCOS is a disease which often times leads to elevated levels of Testosterone and Testosterone like hormones causing irregular menses associated with lack of ovulation. Losing weight has been shown to reduce the elevated T levels and restore normal ovulation and menstrual regularity. People are heterogeneous and losing weight may not reverse pco for everyone.

Congratulations!: Great work on reversing your pre-diabetes! For high testosterone, it depends on what you're treating for. Metformin can help with menstrual cycle and fertility, spironolactone can improve abnormal hair growth (or hair removal like laser etc). Combined hormonal birth control may be a helpful additional treatment, as well as losing weight. All have risks and benefits, consult your endocrinologist.

Some thoughts...: Successful dieting requires that a person stick to a plan for years, so a good tasting diet is important. She must be happy with the foods she gets to eat, so severe calorie restriction is usually unsuccessful. A person can CUT BACK on calories enough to lose 1 pound a week, and she will be more likely to stay with that modest type of plan. One pound a week is 52 per year. May need PCOS medicine.

Testing: You might have Insulin or usgar abnormalities. You should get tested. Metformin may be useful. With pcos exercise is of particular importance and is usually required for weight loss with pcos.

Yes: Weight loss will help with all symptoms of pcos including excess hair growth. Unfortunately the excess hair that has become darker and thicker may not go away completely, but weight loss will prevent new hair from growing. You may still need to apply other methods for completely getting rid of the excess hair such as laser. Talk to your doctor if weight loss does not completely address hair growth.

PCOS: Sorry but no shortcuts here: diet, exercise, portion control and have your gYN minor all hormonal levels including thyroid and blood sugar as well as female and testosterone levels. Please consult a  personal trainer and a registered dietician.

Weight gain not loss: PCOS is caused by insulin resistance in the majority of people with this condition.  Typically there is a family history for diabetes, weight problems, and other family members with PCOS.  You are born with the genetic tendency, but weight gain contributes to insulin resistance.  Weight loss improves the condition.
