i have pcos qnd just had a week long period that ended 7 days ago and now i just started again. why is this happening?

PCOS: Pcos is notorious for causing irregular menstrual cycles, interfering with the desire to get pregnant and alters you fasting sugar levels much in the way as would a diabetic. Usually, birth control can help with regulating the menstraul cycles. You may also be placed on a medication called metformin in that will aid in preventing as well as treating diabetes.

i have pcos been on bc since i was 13, im now 22. worried about the impacts of bc over long period of time. what happens if i stop taking it?

PCOS ?'s : With PCOS, the use of bcp's are protective of the effects of constant estrogen manufacture w/o ovulation.  If you stop taking oral contraceptive pills, and PCOS is still occurring, you will just continue with no or infrequent ovulation, or you may have overcome PCOS given the long interval.  Unless pregnancy is desired in the near future, you are probably better off continuing the low dose bcp's.

i have pcos, had brown spotting for a month before periods arrived and now period is lasting longer than normal and seem to be getting heavier with no signs of ending is this normal?

PCOS: It is not uncommon to have irregular period due to PCOS. Discuss use of OCPs with your physician to regulate your menstruation. It can also help with acne and facial hair that can commonly occur with PCOS.

i am ttc and right after stopping the pill i had regular cycles (30 days) for 3 months. after this period, my clycles began to be irregular (33-47 days) and longer. doctor confirmed i dont have pcos. is there something to worry or thats just my body?

: Decisions to "TTC" are frequently stressful emotionally, and this is accentuated when menstrual cycles become unpredictable, with questions arising about timing of ovulation.  If conception has not occurred in a 12 month interval, see a reproductive endocrinologist, as you may require medication to stimulate defined ovulation dates.

my obgyn said i should take bcp pills to regulate my period because i have pcos and my periods are very long that lasts two weeks or longer. i cant take estrogen what other option is there ?

Accepted Answer

Increased Androgens: Slim women with PCOS have ovaries that make more androgens (male type hormones) and ovulate less than other women. In my practice, if a salivary hormone test shows low Progesterone, that can be given to block some of the androgens along with an herbal fenugreek, but every patient is unique.  So see a GYN who offers  an alternative approach to PCOS management  if you want to avoid BC pills.

Common: This is common with PCOS but it is not normal. Because you do have estrogen around and it is stimulating the uterine lining to grow but you aren't ovulating and producing progesterone, the lining will just keep getting thicker and when you do bleed it will be heavy and prolonged. Over a long time this increases your risk of uterine cancer. See your doctor for treatment.

Yes: Though most women with pcos have irregular or infrequent periods. Other symptoms can include excessive hair growth, a tendency to diabetes, difficulty getting pregnant. 80% are overweight.

Accepted Answer

Hard to say.: What you are describing may be something unrelated to your diagnosis of pcos.  You may have a vaginal discharge  that is occurring at the same time as your period.  The only way to know what is going on is an exam by your doctor.
