i have gout in my big toe and area can i use emulgel to treat the gout? i also have a tendon sprain on the top of my foot will this cream also help?

You can: But, personally, i think there are more effective treatments. I think oral meds if not contraindicated will work better and faster for the gout. For tendonitis it is fine.

ligament/tendon sprain ankle 7 weeks ago. xray- no fracture. never immobilized. swelling/pain remains around medial malleo. esp after activity. ideas?

Be seen: I would probably be seen for a repeat exam and X-rays.  You may have sustained a deltoid ligament injury or tear.  If this is associated with a syndesmosis injury or a proximal fibula fracture, ankle X-rays can initially be negative but treatment may be needed.

Usually  6 weeks: Ligament injury is graded by the amount of stretch or tearing and the resulting instability. Treatment varies based on injury  from minimal to pt with poss brace to surgery.

Tendonitis: Tendons can take even longer than bones to heal, due to low blood supply. Typically up to 6 weeks.Initially rest ice and support wrap. Followed by gentle therapy which can include heat ultrasound and range of motion.

Typically immobiliza: Tion and rest will assist in the healing of a patellar tendon tear.  It is critical to not continue to perform activity that might fully rupture the tendon.  I treat my patients in a knee immobilizer for 4 weeks crutches as needed, nsaids and then gentle pt out to 8 weeks from injury.

what causes the patella to shift off track laterally? if you have a weak lateral tendon would it make it worse?

Patellar tracking : Causes can be mal formed patella femoral groove or muscle/tendon imbalance. Regardless, see a PMR doc or orthopoedist for consideration of bracing or surgical repair to prevent injury and maintain knee functioning. Good luck

Usually dramatic: This is typically a painful, traumatic and debilitating injury. Initial symptoms would be pain in the front of the knee, diffuse swelling around the knee, and difficulty straightening the knee without assistance. Often the leg feels powerless and as if you are dragging it, because the powerful quad muscle in your thigh is no longer connected to the lower leg (tibia). Seek medical attention.

can you tear your patella tendon from doing a lunge? i have so much pain in the base if the knee?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: This is a low energy exercise and would be rare to tear tendon. This however can flare up pain in the tendon due to inflammation or cause irritation to cartilage on back of kneecap. Try a different exercise like a seated leg press and take Motrin if possible.
