Assume not normal: If you have never experienced this before, then you should assume that there might be something going on to explain this finding.  First, you really need to check a pregnancy test.  If this is negative, then you should contact your ob/gyn who will likely schedule an ultrasound to make sure your uterus looks normal. Hard to say: Not sure what you mean by "tissue".  Sometimes old, organized clot might look like a "tissue".  If your bleeding is excessive, you can always consult a gynecologist.

Trust the test: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctor's office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period.  If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection. Sounds like this is just a light period.

Menstrual fluid: This may be normal menstrual bleeding mixed with thickened vaginal mucous; however, if you see thick red-black clots that look like jelly- see your gyn for a pelvic examination. If you have missed a menstrual cycle, you must be checked for pregnancy.
