Treated?: Psittacosis or ornithosis is treatable with antibiotics and should respond fairly rapidly, although it may be a week or so before you begin to feel fully normal again.

Not necessarily : The usual animal allergy is to fur bearing mammals (cats and dogs). However, we can become allergic to almost anything and its this allergic response than can trigger an asthma attack.

No, but...: &quot;farmer&#x27;s lung&quot; is a diagnosis made on history. Anybody can have precipitin antibodies against the bacterial spores that cause it. Keep your parrot.

a few hours after feeding a big group of parrots i noticed small scratches on my arm and my childs from the birds claws, could this pass on hcv as i am positive for it? small amount of blood appeared but a few hours after. im very concerned, thanks

HCV is Curable: 
Sharing personal items contaminated with infectious blood, such as razors or toothbrushes (also inefficient vectors of transmission), so if the claws were contaminated with blood, can theoretically transmit HCV if clawed by the same bird. average period from exposure to symptom onset is 2–12 weeks . Over 90% of HCV infected persons can be cured of HCV infection regardless of HCV genotype.

Yes: You may have a sensitivity to the bird and this type of reaction is typical with re-exposure after prolonged non-exposure.  Remove the bird to see if you improve.  Recommend seeing an Allergist to better define risk and to determine if anything else in the environment may be contributing to your symptoms. Also chest discomfort may suggest underlying asthma or more severe bird sensitivity.

Probably not: Ornithosis (a.K.A. Psittacosis) usually causes fever associated with malaise, headache and cough.  Sneezing alone would not be suggestive of this diagnosis.
