Treat for BV: The tests you describe are not the way to diagnose bv. If it smells like it, just treat it.

Maybe: Bacterial vaginosis (due to gardnerella sp), candida (yeast) and trichomoniasis are all infections that can cause discharge and are readily detected on  pap exam.

The one who...: ...Could correctly answer that question is the gynecologist who told you that the discharge is abnormal.  It could be an std, vaginitis (an infection of the vagina), or yeast.  S/he most likely took a sample and sent it for testing.  I don't think a doctor is likely to tell you s/he found something abnormal and then not do anything to investigate.  You need to follow up with him or her.

Pap smear/infection: Since you have already used Monistat, don't use anything else until the pap smear appointment. The pap smear cells are easier to read by the Pathologist if there are not any other substances in the vagina to interfere. Moreover, your MD can take a sample of the discharge to determine if the infection is still there and needs further Rx or gone.

This is probably...: A yeast infection.  Typical symptoms are white 'cottage cheese' appearance to vaginal discharge.  It is nothing to be scared about.  Please see your physician for evaluation and treatment.

Check for pregnancy: After you have ruled that out you may consider other causes.  You are still a little young to be starting menopause, and there are a number of other possibilities.  See your doctor.

Many possibilities: There are multiple possibilities associated with a brown discharge most of which cannot be diagnosed by a Pap smear.  The most common reasons  in your age group are associated with ovulatory abnormalities and infections.  The specific cause can usually be identified with a thorough history and physical examination including testing for specific infections.  You need to make an appointment with your gynecologist.

Discharge after pap: Its can be normal to have either brownish or blood discharge after a "good" pap(depends on which end of the pap your on)When delicate tissues are scraped there can be bleeding.  Please call your doctor for your results..many offices are so busy they can let results fall through the crack.  I would just want you to make sure your pap was normal.

yes: When doing a pap you scape the cervix which might cause bleeding after the pap.  I alway tell people they might have a little spotting a fter the pap, especially when nothing looks abnormal.
