my ultrasound said my cbd and pancreatic bile ducts were dialated,  ct with/without contrast was normal. 2years post op from a duodenal adenoma?

Question?: I'm not sure what you're question is.  The ultrasound is a better test to look at the cbd and pancreatic ducts.  They are dialated, but to what extent?  Where there any noted gallstones on ultrasound or CT?  Have you had your GB removed?  I understand you had surgery 2 years ago.  Was this a routine post-op US with follow-up CT or are you having symptoms which precipitated the exams?  Thanks.

Gallbladder dyskines: It is a test for dysfunctional gallbladder/ talk to your pcp regarding the appropriate test.

mom had bile duct ca, her brother had pancreatic ca . i am 46f and worry about getting these. are they hereditary?  what are the causes?

NO: There is no evidence that either cancer is hereditary!
Worrying about this is time "wasted" while you could be out there enjoying your life when you are your age!

Bile duct: It is not dangerous.The worry is that you could produce gallstones which could conceivably stick in the bile duct but unlikely. Good Luck

Both: The stone can move or stimulate your pancreas do release enzymes. It can be like the which came first chicken or egg?

Possibly: If all other blood tests do not show a cause of liver disease, then the results are consistent with fatty liver disease.

Maging studies: Liver function studies and history can give a strong indication that the pt has a common duct stone. At surgery for cholecystectomy, a cholangiogram can show a cbd stone. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (mrcp) is being done as a noninvasive test to find cbd stones prior to ercp. Sometimes only ERCP gives the answer.

Yes: I would think that excludes pancreas problems.  Left upper quadrant pain is usually related to stomach, spleen, or very commonly-difficulty with stool getting around the splenic flexure  of the colon.  Lookup "splenic flexure syndrome" on the internet

Accepted Answer

Very low: Pancreatic cancers commonly arise in the head of the pancreas and thus present with obstructive jaundice. This is caused by extrinsic compression of the common bile duct(cbd).
However, some of these tumors can originate in the periampullary area where they may not show well on a ct scan and need  upper endoscopy and ERCP to be visualized/localized.
