what are some tips for maintaining weight once you've lost a good amount? i'm eating a paleo diet but want to introduce regular food once i hit my goal. i find maintaining to be the hardest part.

No: Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

is the paleo diet really good for someone who has auto immune illness ? also hypoglycemic ? confused on which foods can and can't have on it .?

Try healthy balanced: There is no specific diet for autoimmune dz which has been proven to affect the disease.  Many individuals notice certain food senseitivities.  If you find foods bother you stay away from them.  With hypoglycemia you need a balanced diet and more frequent small amounts.

Primitive diet: The idea of the Paleo diet is that we should eat what primitive man ate and this should make us healthier.  Many doctors are concerned that this diet is too high in red meat and does not allow vegetable oils such as olive oil, both of which may increase your heart attack risk.  Additionally, no dairy products are allowed which may cause calcium deficiency.  Also no grains or legumes are allowed.

"Practical Paleo": If you want to learn more about the paleo food plan, diane sanfilippo has a helpful book called "practical paleo" that explains the process and provides many recipes.  The idea is really to eliminate processed foods, sugars, grains, etc in favor of "real food, " including grass-fed meats, eggs, vegetables. Don't use a Paleo: Diet.  Check out www.Drmcdougall.com and www.nutritionfacts.org for information on a healthy diet.  Both doctors cite lots of research on the benefits of a low-fat, plant-based diet and the dangers of a high-protein, high-fat diet.

Sort of: I think some of the reasoning is based on conjecture, but the diet actually does work well for many people. It is a gluten free diet, amongst other things, so considering that about 40% of the population has some degree of gluten sensitivity, one is hard pressed to really go wrong with paleo.

Of course: It's a diet, not a religious abstinence. I don't really know what our "paleolithic" ancestors ate or did, or how they stayed so healthy (if they actually did). What I do know is that they exercised intensively, and that our bodies were made to do this. Choose your diet as you wish, and hopefully you'll find the opportunity to stay fit as well.

Good but not easy: In certain respects it makes a lot of sense- eating the same whole foods our distant ancestors ate. Many modern illnesses are related to sugars & many people have a hard time with dairy, gluten etc.But i don't think everyone needs to avoid all dairy, grains, legumes etc. All the time.You might try it & see how you feel & perhaps try some of the foods avoided on occasion to see how they affect you.

If: U r willing to live as a  caveman = outside, find no available food at least 2 days/week, exercise 4 hours/day, then it is fine. If not, then  eat mostly (18-19 meals/ week) of "foods exactly as they grow up out of the ground"l with wild caught game-if you can see where the muscles meet the muscles on your abdomen = a lack of fat under the skin, .
