tooth pain sometimes severe. xray shows no cavity but tooth is filled. also same side has an impacted wisdom tooth. very sharp pains to cold not so much with hot. hurts off and on sometimes without even drinking anything cold feels achy?

: Sight unseen, I suspect it is the tooth with the filling. It may be "leaking" and the filling probably needs to be replaced, especially if it is 10+ years old. Radiographs don't always show every problem, so you need sometimes treat from experience.

hi i have toothache for a few days but x-ray didn't show anything. it's now become painful when i touch the tooth and hurts when i drink hot and cold.

Accepted Answer

You have an infectio: n and should see a dentist.  May require special x-rays to see or just an exam.  Don't delay as an infection could spread or you could lose a tooth.  Good luck!

xray shows slight gray area around tooth, however that tooth doesn' hurt, pain is in the one next to it.  can pain be referred ? treat which tooth?

See endodntist: Diagnosis can be challenging and complicated due to pain from one tooth may be referred from another tooth or from other orofacial structures. Endodontists are trained to differentiate between pain of endodontic origin and non-ondodontic pain.

tooth with crown sometimes throbs with my puls, mostly at nighte.  doc wants root canal.  reasonable? xray shows small dark area.

Accepted Answer

Absolutely: It appears you have an abscess at the tip of that tooth, secondary to an non-vital nerve. Failure to treat with root canal therapy will result in a larger abscess, continuous pain, and swelling. In the end you will either have the root canal therapy or extract the tooth.

dentist tried to pull tooth out, wouldnt budge. 2 wk later stabbing pain in gum behind the tooth! looks normal. xray shows normal. any ideas why hurts?

Yes: Tooth and bone have been traumatized. Please see an oral surgeon if your general dentist could not extract the tooth.

have a filling on my front tooth(from 8/9 yrs ago), it has become yellow & looks worn out. wasnt a problem until the tooth became sensitive since 2 months, pain radiates from the same area as filling, xray shows healthy tooth. should i replace it?

: Although the radiograph shows a healthy tooth, the filling might be leaking, resulting in sensitivity. If the tooth is sensitive to cold and sweets, replace the restoration. If sensitive to percussion only, have the tooth tested for vitality... the nerve n the tooth may be necrotic.

3rd meta sf 12 weeks ago, xray shows its healed (w/sm callus).foot still swells, weird "feeling" in that area and is tender to push. normal?exercise ok?

Yes: If your doctor says its 'healed' its ok to start exersising again.It may still feel a bit tender and parasthesias(pins/needles etc.) normal.You probably want to start in very slowly  w/ your exersise routine and gradually build up the duration and intensity of your workout routine.If you have any problems see your ors.Good luck!

twisted left ankle. xray shows type2 accessory navicular. right foot has type3. could it be left foot had type3 which now broken to look like typ2 ?

Accessory Bone: That is unlikely but can happen. However you will have pain and tenderness in that region if a type 3 navicular has fractured. X-ray appearance will be different. I can take a look if you want a consult.

my husband 's xray shows straightening of the lumbar spine, with pain from his left buttock down the foot.anti-inflamatory was useless.what's the cure?

Back Pain: Straightening of the lumbar spine indicates spinal muscle spasm. If there is associated pain (or numbness) that radiates to the foot, a herniated disc is a possibility. Depending on the duration of symptoms, a lumbar spine MRI may be indicated. If symptoms have been present for 2-4 weeks, physical therapy and anti-inflammatories can help. If greater than 4 weeks, would consider MRI

i twisted my foot 3 weeks ago on a rock. xray shows no fracture but likely tendon and ligament damage. i am unable to walk properly without pain. ?

Accepted Answer

Another xray: may be indicated as some fractures don't show up immediately.  If you are unable to walk after 3 weeks while taking good care of yourself otherwise, I would recommend this.
