i fractured my big toe at the base of the toe, over the ball of my foot. i am 73 and work as a crossing guard. i had a boot, so have been wearing that whenever i have to be out. dr said switch to flat ortho shoe, not good support.what do you think?

: You are concerned about the fracture not support. The doctor was recommending a shoe with a rigid sole shoe to prevent flexion/extension at the fracture site. Until the fracture heals all else is secondary   After healing a supportive shoe is appropriate for standing

my friend has a red bump on her big toe at the base of the toe nail (left side) , she cant go to a doctor right now , but it there any possibility medicines or anything she can put on it that can possibly help it ? if youll like she can send pictures.

Ingrown nail?: There are several possible things this could be but most commonly ingrown nail/abcess is the culprit. Soak toe for 15 min twice a day in water with Epsom salts in it. Then apply Bacitracin to it.  Keep up routine until medical evaluation.

It works by increasing the amount of moisture in the skin and dissolving aggregated skin cells.
