Re-evaluate neck: It usually is not normal to have pain almost daily after a cervical fusion 5 years later. If it is significant pain, then it needs to be re-evaluated. X-rays may need to be taken with the neck flexed forward and also extended backward. Additional testing may be needed depending on exam findings and possibly the x-ray results.

Definitely safe: Cadaver bone for an anterior cervical fusion (what it sounds like you are having) is safe, sterile, and works practically as good as taking bone from your own pelvis. Plus, no pain from harvesting the bone from your pelvis. Typically, one day in the hospital. Maybe two of there are any complications or to watch your other medical issues.
