my 28/295 son has severe swelling and pain on the top of  right foot.  limps. takes norvace 10mg for hbp otherwise healthy.  why?

? gout: Norvasc (amlodipine) causes edema (swelling), but that is painless, and usually effects both feet.  Severe pain and swelling might be due to gout.  Infection, fracture, or other types of arthritis are possible also.  Your son should see a doctor to sort this out.

Ouch! That Hurts: Pain like a needle, comes and goes and on top of the foot sounds like a nerve irritation. If there is no swelling, redness or wound then I would not be as concerned as if there was. These things are most often caused by pressure to the foot. Check the shoes (sandals) to see if pressure is caused by them. If it gets worse, then time for a visit to the doctors.

Rest.: Sounds like either tendonitis (treat with rest, ben-gay or icy hot, anti-inflammatories) or possibly joint inflammation (treat with anti-inflammatories and more arch support).

i recently noticed a pain on the top of my right foot when i dorsiflex it. it is about midfoot on the left side and hurts when i flex it to the right.

Could be a Tibialis : Could be an Tibialis Anterior tendinitis. This is just based on the region and activity that you describe. Without X-ray I don't want to give a definitive diagnosis. I have seen many of these and generally ice and rest as well as changing your shoe gear to something that does not run or cut on that area.

Pain with burning : And numbness into your toe sounds like a neuroma. A nerve which might be irritated or compressed. Wear loose shoes and seek a podiatrist help if your symptoms do not improve or worsen.

Foot: This could be tendonitis from the new job (overuse) and it could be a stress fracture.  See your podiatrist for x rays and an evaluation

You should: Go to a podiatrist to have it evaluated. It may be a ganglion ic cyst which is benign, but either way it should be biopsied, aspirated or removed in some capacity.
