Spasm: I am not sure of what all your symptoms are but most likely spasm. Of note this will happen more with stress or irritable bowel. It will also happen sometimes if there is days between bm or you are constipated.
See your doctor if possible. and drink much water to make sure you are well hydrated.

Start with water: Try to increase water intake and maybe also fiber intake to get a more even consistency to your stool. If having regular bowel movements results in minimization of the discomfort then this was the problem. If symptoms persist then you probably need to see your doctor in order to evaluate for other things like gallbladder problems.

Related to breathing: Is that sharp pain in synch or can it be reproduced by breathing movements? If so, you're fine...just a little intercostal neuritic pain from a pinched nerve twig that will relieve itself in short. If that's not the case then, likely a transient GI glitch. If that symptom changes into something more prolonged and localized into the abdomen then, you need to see your doctor.

Do you strain to have a bowel movement? Do you have any obvious bowel symptoms? If symptoms persist consult your physician or a gastroenterologist for evaluation.

Get checked out: Right side of your abdomen under rib cage is where your liver and gall bladder live. A good doc can examine your liver to see if it's tender.  A blood test can reveal irritation to the liver cells or gall bladder.
If organs are ok, Structurally, there can be dysfunction of the tissue/nerve/bone system in that area--an osteopath or PT or good yoga session might help.
