Left rib pain: Intermittent  pain may be gas ( gas-x) , constipation-try Milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide)   may be gastritis(try ranitidine /prevecid), costochondritis- ( NSAIDS if no allergy ). Rarely I have seen it with vagintis (mycoplasma, ureoplasma. BV)  Rarely at age 41 may be more serious ovary or colon issue  (polyp) would check ovary/ colon( colongard or if family history   colonoscopy ).  f/U with do

i thought i broke a rib a week ago but the pain on my left side has gotten worse. it now hurts to lay down and it's worst when i lay on my right side?

Wait: Rib pains may last for 3 to 6 wks. Even if Fx of 1 rib, u may wait if no SOB, take some pain pills, nay use a brace

Get checked out.: It is possible that when you were pregnant, the uterus caused some rib cage/cartilage pain from pressing on it.  Usually, that would go away though.

Probably best to have it evaluated by your physician.  But, it is probably nothing to worry about.

Costochronritis: Rib pain can be very very painful and annoying. Use a heating pad and see your doc. In miserable cases i will inject a small amount of steroids and used acupuncture to release the associated muscles.

Very hard to say: Lilly T, you are young and from a Caribbean country.  If you have been injured, it probably is bruised ribs and they take a long time to heal.  They may get worse if you lie on them while they are not healed.  If you have not had ANY injury, or if you are having any fever, it could be something in your  heart or lungs so you should be checked.  good luck to you.

Muscle Pain: If this pain is reproducable with movement, then it is most likely muscle-related. The left flank is a strange place for a muscle strain, though. If you've been chopping wood or moving furniture, then i could understand some under-used muscles now being painful. Try some local heat and advil (ibuprofen) to see if those help.

The spleen, colon: If your pain continues, it would be a good idea to see your physician for a physical exam and consultation. if you have suffered trauma in that area, it is even more important, since the spleen can rupture under such conditions. Take care.

Upper ab pain: Causes of upper abdominal pain can include but are not limited to: gallstones, hepatitis, pancreatitis, peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, inflammation of the bile duct or gallbladder, obstructed intestines,  and problems of the chest such as angina, heart attack, pericarditis, pneumonia and pleurisy.

If pain is: Into chest see pcp as soon as possible!-is there any rash in the area? Again, see pcp.
