Very good: If you suffer from back/ leg pain please firs check with your doctor to make sure it is not for example a tumor that is pressing on a nerve causing you the problem . If it is a case where the pain is secondary 
to pure inflammation and irritation of the nerve secondary to impingement by a disc , muscle spasm, heavy lifting, bad posture, exposure to cold , etc..
Then acupuncture  is the way to go!

Probably ok to...: Diagnosing the causes for backache and groin pain heavily relies on analyzing the degree, duration, interval of pains with their detailed sequence of event in relation to its timing in a day and physical activities, plus physical examination. Ct/mri is merely used to correlate with clinical suspicion, and the findings in ct/mri alone should not be the sole deciding factor for surgical intervention

You should: As long as you have a current prescription it should not affect your testing. I suggest bringing a letter from your pharmacy or a voided copy of your prescription to show the person in charge of administering the drug test.

Back specialist: Not sure if you have seen one yet, but it appears that you should see an orthopedic surgeon or possibly even a neurosurgeon who specializes in the back.  Pain shots (cortisone, etc.) may help with symptoms, but if there is a major herniated disk, other means may be necessary.  I know because i had back surgery in feb, 12011.

Complementary: Chronic pain has been traditionally been treated by either using opiod based narcotics or non-opiods as ibuprofen/tylenol.  Now usage of central acting meds like Gabapentin or Cymbalta (duloxetine) has gained grounds. For non traditional approach, complementary health such as acupuncture works!

He or she may recommend further testing such as mris or nerve tests to determine the exact cause of your pain before recommending treatment options.

Depends: It would be nice to know about your problem in more detail and also about the shot you are getting. There are different medications introduced for different reasons. You may experience from very little to quite a bit of pain. Sometimes it takes a little while for the shot to start working and you may end up having more pain at first.
