Sorry to hear: I am sorry about your painful shins, but i cannot help you much other than to advise to stop doing what hurts, take Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen). Put some heat or vice versa- apply some ice. Keep your legs/feet elevated. Unless, I have more history from you, that's all i can suggest now.

Neuropathy?: Pain in the front of the leg may be due to nerve damage or muscle weakness.  Diabetes and metabolic disorders can cause muscle and nerve damage that will result in chronic pain.  Back disorders usually cause pain down the back of the leg.  You should start with a thorough medical evaluation, and then may need emg/nerve conduction studies.  Vascular disorder needs to be ruled out.

Overuse injury...: Sounds like shin splints. You need to reduce intensity and distance to 50-60% levels. Run on flat and forgiving surfaces. You might want to evaluate your shoes and their ware. Application of ice, heat, stretching can all afford some degree of relief, but over use is the problem and reduction of activity is the answer.

Some things that could cause pain in the shin are shin splints which is an irritation of the covering of the bone called the periosteum. Tendon or muscle strains are also a possibility. Need to also look at possible problems with circulation. Sometimes the pain is far away from the source. A doc should figure out.
