Pain in the muscles: or soft tissues of the legs would typically be due to muscular fatigue or injury caused by overuse. Chronic muscle tension associated with stress could also be a contributor. RARELY it could be due to a primary muscle disease. How blue one's veins look beneath the skin is largely determined by how close to the surface they are and how thin your skin is.Nothing in your question suggests blood clots

Sprained?: You might have sprained it a couple of days ago without realizing it at the time. Try ice pack or heating pad- whichever works better and perhaps NSAID. If the pain fails to improve after a few days or keeps on getting worse, time to see your doctor.

Usually from the top: Most of the time the pain starts in the buttocks and radiates down to the calf or foot.  It is possible the pain can occur lower in the leg first

Muscle Strain: Did you work upper or lower body?  You may have a muscle strain or overuse injury.  There is also a small chance of a DVT (blood clot).
Take otc naprosyn (naproxen) or Ibuprofen and stretch.  If  you develop any shortness of breath go to the er.

More info please: Leg pain can arise from many sources. If you are taking statins for cholesterol, this can cause pain. Electrolyte inbalances can also cause pain as can phlebitis.Diabetics can develop leg pains from neuropathy and/or damage to blood vessels. Please see your physician and rule out these and other possibilities.

The muscles contract when they are at rest and often need to be stretched when beginning usage. However, many types of sciatica, nerve pain caused by compression within the spine, can also be worse in the seated position. Your doctor can identify the problem.

Leg pain: Does the pain ease with leg down? Which may related with arterial circulation problem. Then arterial doppler (u/s) study of leg arteries. 
If no difference of pain with leg down as sitting or standing, then it may coming from muscle or nerves which needs to see probably orthopedic surgeon or pain doctor.

No: No, many structures from the low back can produce pain in the leg. This includes the discs, the facet joints as well the covering of the nerve sac called the dura. In fact i see more pain from some of these other structures than true sciatica. The quality of the pain from sciatica is also different.

i frequently get leg pain and when i do i always take 2-3 avil liquid jel tablets at a time. is that ok?

Probably : Prescription strength Advil (ibuprofen) is 600-800 mg three times a day, which would be the equivilnant of twelve 200 mg tablets in a day.  So as long as you stay within that itviscreasonably safe; but NSAIDs like Advil (ibuprofen) can potentially cause stomach and kidney problems and so there long term use would be better to avoid.
