Aerophagia vs reflux: Involuntary belching after a meal is normal, caused by release of swallowed gas after distension of the stomach with food. Magenblase syndrome is postprandial epigastric fullness ; bloating, relieved by belching. Aerophagia (accumulation of gas due to air swallowing) is common with anxiety, hypersalivation from gum chewing, smoking, drinking, oral irritation. Gerd may contribute to your distress.

Neither: Object lodged in esophagus would not usually cause either type of cough, but more a choking sensation.  If a cough is produced, i would imagine a dry cough, as there is no reason that sputum production would be increased.

Indirectly......: Barrett's esophagus is an injury to the esophagus that happens when there is gastroesophageal reflux present. And, GERD can cause wheezing and cough. If the GERD is treated, the cough and wheezing due to the GERD will go away and Barrett's esophagus will be avoided so see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment of GERD!

im a 22f with lpr. i have had symptoms for almost a year. i take ppis. i have an on and off cough, mucous in throat, clearing throat, etc. what is the chance that i could have barretts esophagus? im really concerned about it?

: Barrett's esophagus occurs when you have suffered reflux esophagitis for a long time (acute esophagitis - chronic esophagitis - Barret's esophagus - esophageal cancer) so if you have not been diagnosed with chronic distal esophagitis by EGD, your risk is very low. LPR could be a risk factor for laryngeal cancer so you need to keep your weight in range, adjust diet, no smoke &amp; alcohol. Good luck

Cough: Is it serious: It sounds like with swallowing and acting normal you do not need to be worried. Drinking fluids is another reason to be reassured.

Reflux causing cough: Coughing occurs because the gastric contents are refluxed back up the esophagus and spill onto the larynx (voice box) which because irritated and tries to protect your airway by forcefully expelling the irritant out of the lung. One of the functions of the larynx is to protect the airway and it does it by stimulating the cough reflex when there has been an aspiration.

LPR...: Your chronic cough might be a symptom of LPR (laryngopharyngeal reflux).  This is caused by reflux and regurgitation of stomach contents and acid all the way up the esophagus until it spills over into the larynx and irritates the vocal cords and bronchial tubes.  Treatment includes acid suppressive therapy with ppi type drugs e.g. Prilosec, along with diet and lifestyle changes.

Coughing: You might have some reflux coming up to your throat.  Coughing is one of the most common symptoms of lpr, or laryngopharyngeal reflux.  I would have you see an ent.  Alternatively, you could be aspirating some food when you eat, but this is far less likely.

i've been sick for 7 days now. i've had a fever on and off. couldn't get out of bed for 3 days. thought i was better yesterday but that was short lived. slept all day today. two neg covid tests. burning esophagus on and off cough and headaches?

: These are very nonspecific symptoms, i.e. they do not point strongly to any particular cause. But COVID and influenza are high on the list of possibilities -- and obviously COVID is on your mind, since you listed it as a topic tag. Get tested for it and discuss with your doctor. Good luck.
