A member asked:

Sometimes it feels like air is coming up my esophagus, kind of like mucus when you are coughing it up, but there isn't mucus and then i cough. no pain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Aerophagia vs reflux: Involuntary belching after a meal is normal, caused by release of swallowed gas after distension of the stomach with food. Magenblase syndrome is postprandial epigastric fullness ; bloating, relieved by belching. Aerophagia (accumulation of gas due to air swallowing) is common with anxiety, hypersalivation from gum chewing, smoking, drinking, oral irritation. Gerd may contribute to your distress.
