It : It sounds like you may have a herniated disc in your lumbar spine pinching nerves.  If you have weakness or bowel/bladder problems, you should be evaluated by a spine surgeon soon.  The pain and numbness may resolve on their own, but some people require an operation to remove the disc fragment and decompress the nerves.

Options we have are drugs to control the pain, physical therapy to the back, pain specialist evaluation for possible back injections. Surgery as a lost resort. Have your doctor check you first. Be seen: If you did not injure it but your foot is swollen and tender, I would sure be seen.  Possible causes could include an inflammatory or infectious process or even a blood clot.  An exam and appropriate studies can likely quickly determine the cause.

It is surprising to: many how effective PT can be in isolating and treating specific injuries. Their knowledge and experience is extremely beneficial in many situations where one would assume that simple independent home therapy would have been enough. I would see them for an evaluation and recommendations especially if you are going to be going on a ski trip where further injury is a possibility.

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!
