Nor really: Water should not cause any pain or causes pain in the tear duct.  If you are having pain then see an eye doctor.  Tear draining openings are on inner corner of the lids  that drains to the tears duct.

Dacryocystitis : it's possible you have an infection of your lacrimal sac. It's the structure that the tears flow through on the way to the nasopharynx.  If it doesn't resolve see your eye care specialist to get a diagnosis

Depends on situation: This is common in infants &amp; given some time &amp; growth the blockage stops on its own as the duct becomes larger.If still blocked at 6m &amp; unresponsive to simple measures, an ophthalmologist may need to probe the duct &amp; clear the blockage. One simple treatment involves rolling the tip of the finger over the inner corner of the eye over the tear sac of the eye which may push out any debris blocking it

my 6 week old daughter's eye has been red around the outside and watering.  now there is a green discharge?  is it infected, just a blocked tear duct?

Hard to tell: Probably this is just the tear duct. If she is not distressed with it and has no fever, warm (not hot!) compresses will work and are safe to try. If there is any distress, a fever, swelling, or anything other than a very benign appearance, or if it fails to improve, her pediatrician should see it to decide if anything further is needed.

Eye: If you are having watery eye on one side I would  be suspicious for some type of tear duct obstruction.

Eye exam: Warm compresses for 10 minutes 4 times a day will  help the cyst if it is a sty or chalazion . If the tear duct is blocked this will not help, it needs to be examined by an ophthalmologist.

Saline rinse: Saline rinses to remove dust, a test to check vision and a local antihistamine.

Depends: Tear outflow consists of two parts, the upper from the eyelid to the side of the nose, and the lower from the side of the nose into the nose.  If the upper is clogged it can sometimes be opened by probing done by your ophthalmologist.  If the lower portion then it may require surgery.  If a child, there is a different set of rules.

trauma: You cannot rupture a normal tear duct by ordinary activity.  It will open only with trauma which cuts into the lid on the inside portion near the nose.
