Trochanteric: bursitis ...an inflammation of the bursa (fluid filled sac) which acts as a "shock absorber" may present this way. Suggest you see an Orthopedist who can conform this diagnosis and treat .(usually a cortisone shot does the "trick"

Exercise or sport?: This sounds like a pulled muscle, tendon, or ligament.  Occasionally a tiny piece of bone can be displaced with certain activities with very strong hip and leg muscles.  You should first apply warm compresses or heating pad and take Tylenol (acetaminophen) or very low dose NSAID; you can apply Arnica gel or cream and of course avoid any motion or activity that increases pain.  See a doc if not better in 3 days.

Broken rib?: It could be a broken rib if you have been coughing a lot. Or inflammation of the pleural sac which is the lining around the lungs. Try some anti-inflammatory medicine, cough syrup and if short of breath, see an MD.

Hip exam needed: A thorough hip examination would allow for a diagnosis and treatment plan for your hip. The differential diagnosis is broad until examination findings are noted along with plain radiographic findings. Internal hip problems such as cartilage injury or labral injury. External hip joint problems could invovle the musculature of the rectus femoris (large central thigh muscle) as it starts at the hip.

Above Rt Hip Throbs: Does it throb with twisting activities at your waist, prolonged siting, standing, in/out bed, chair, car? What about household activities (sweep, vacuum, mop, doing laundry)? Lumbar spine can cause pain in this area and even cause it to radiate into your hip, buttock, and even your right thigh.
