Infant meds: Most medications are neither approved or recommended for infants.  Normal saline drops to the nose can help loosen secretions and possibly decrease swelling (avoid excessive bulb suction as this traumatizes the membranes of the nose and worsens swelling).  Cool mist humidifers may also help.   Zyrtec (cetirizine) is approved for 6 months and older if an allergic component is suspected.

i fell and bumped my nose on a kitchen counter really hard. i got flu 3 days later thats not going away. my septum has moved and is blocking part of my one nostril- could this be causing the flu?

Nasal injury: The nasal injury can lead to a congested nose and even sinus congestion and headache rather than influenza. Since your injury was significant,I recommend that you be evaluated and treated by an Otolaryngologist.

my daughter has had head lice for almost a year now. we have tried numerous over the counter treatments including  combing, vacuuming and washing linen in hot water. please advise if there is a stronger prescription medicine we could get?

Maybe: I would first have the condition confirmed by a doc. There are a variety of prescribed treatments available but if the kid has a scalp condition that mimics lice they will not help either.

Yes, : Yes, he should go to the hospital.  He shouldn't drive due to his vision. He may well have a concussion and needs prompt medical evaluation.

: Allergy testing, avoidance of smoke and allergens is recommended. Discuss a PCD screening test with a biopsy and nasal NO, immune work up with a physician. Lotrimin (clotrimazole): Using lotrimin (clotrimazole) cream twice a day can sometimes work.  I usually recommend continuing it several days after complete resolution.  Ringworm on the scalp, and if it is resistant to this therapy - see your doctor.

Yes: This depends on the severity of the condition.  In my practice, since severs disease is only seen in the young, i tend to recommend otc products such a advil (ibuprofen) on as needed basis of course combined with specific limitations of certain actitivis, exercises, ice/heat, footwear, education for school pe instructors and coaches, etc.  The best cure is birthdays.

No such animal.: Unless you have very, very mild psoriasis - which might respond to Hydrocortisone cream - nothing available over the counter in the us is going to make much of a dent in your psoriasis. Sorry, but i've been doing this for 30 years and have yet to see an otc product work, other than skin cap, which turned out to have an illegal steroid in it. See a dermatologist; don't waste money on otc treatments.

Cortisone creams: Options are very limited. Cortisone creams can help but if the disease is more than very mild you should see a dermatologist.
