is there any over-the-counter anti nausea medication for chronic nausea and vomiting?

Some : Pepto bismol helps sometimes and if the nausea is due to acid reflux, things like zantac (ranitidine) or Prilosec otc could too.  Ginger is said to help deal with nausea as well. Lifestyle changes like limiting alcohol and caffeine could be of benefit but my question is why do you have chronic nausea?  I would suggest you visit your family doc or a GI as there could be something that needs treatment.

PSYCHIATRIST : Get a comprehensive evaluation from a psychiatrist. Tell him/her all the medications that you are on, and that you are currently experiencing a very unpleasant reaction. Also, I would urge getting a referral to a reputable psychotherapist. The optimal combination for this sort of thing is a combination of medication and therapy, not just one or the other. “Pills and skills” as we often say.

is the sancuso transdermal patch for chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting really any better than pill medications or is it about equal in effect?

Accepted Answer

"non-inferior": Sancuso = granisetron in a transdermal patch.  A study compared the granisetron patch with granisetron pills.  Statistically speaking, there was "non-inferiority;" in other words, one was as effective as the other.  The advantage is in the convenience of the patch compared with taking a pill several times a day.

OTC RX FOR N &amp;V: These can indeed help you :   Chamomile tea.  Peppermint tea.  Coca Cola (sip slow)  -- all work.  Popsicles too.

Emetrol: 5 ml 1/2 hour before eating or drinking. I prefer the lemon flavor but also available in cherry flavor. avoid dairy products &amp; give small sips of fluids frequently to prevent dehydration

Call PCP: and he will prescribed Zofran ( ondansetron) ) or , less likely, Tigan ( trimethobenxanmide) or Compazine ( prochlorperazinen ). I suggest following a clear fluid diet as follows: No solid food for 24-48hrs
Force fluids: Electrolytes rich 8-10 8 oz. glasses of Powerade, G, Vitamin water, Pedialyte and sugar water.
Avoid ALL citrus, alcohol and NSAIDS (Advil. Aspirin or Aleve)
Call physician for protracted vomiting.
Jell-O  made with Powerade, Vitamin Water, or G-OK
After 48 hrs.: soft bland diet: boiled chicken, dried tuna, mashed potatoes.
Must be passing urine every 2-3 hours, if not, increase fluid intake.

Need more info: Cryofibrinogenemia is a complex illness with many side effects. You must discuss this in depth with your treating physician.

Depends: Would be worth a doctor examination as nausea and vomiting without diarrhoea may be another cause such as migraine, urine or other infection or other abdominal problem.  What medications one can take for the nausea and vomiting depends on your medical history and current medications.  There are a variety of options.  Best to see doctor to sort the above out. my obgyn prescribed me ondansetron for nausea and vomiting. im 7 weeks pregnant and goggle is showing all sorts of defects associated with this drug. is it really safe to take?

Tough decision: Personally, I would avoid Zofran in the first trimester.  Unfortunately,  that's usually when you need it the most!  We just don't know enough yet about possible birth defects with long term side effects to say it's  safe in early pregnancy.  If your nausea/vomiting is so severe you are dehydrated, you may not have a choice,  on could try old school anti-nausea meds that are safer. GOOD LUCK!

i was at a carnival yesterday and spin extremely fast on a ride and today i've had extreme nausea and vomiting?

Dizzy?: Are you dizzy as well? You may have moved the "crystals" in the inner ear which can throw off your balance. This can cause nausea and vomiting with it. If this persists, there is a maneuver that can be done by your PCP to help move them back into place.
