Common finding: Many young women have ovarian cysts and many will experience a spontaneous rupture. The cyst ruptures not the ovary, and may release a small amount of blood into the abdomen triggering some discomfort. Natural ovulation is just the release of an egg through much the same process, the cyst doesn't release an egg.

Bleeding: Most cysts don't burst actually.   A corpus luteum bursts as it releases an egg, which is part of normal ovulation.  The "ruptured cyst" is actually bleeding into the corpus luteum after the cyst naturally ruptures, which can be quite painful for many months.   But other kinds of cysts basically never burst, and in fact the ovary can stretch quite huge without rupturing.

Your ovary is very good at healing itself when this happens and there usually are not any long-term problems.

Rest and Ibuprofen: When an ovarian cyst ruptures, the cyst fluid irritates your insides causing pain.   Usually this pain lasts only a few days and then goes away on its own.  It is usually treated with something like Ibuprofen to help with the pain as your body reabsorbs the fluid.  

If you have pain that lasts for months, its unlikely to be from a ruptured ovarian cyst.  See your doctor.
