Maybe ear infection: If your young baby is not acting well, it is best to see your doctor. It certainly could be an ear infection that could be causing his symptoms. Ear infections are common complications of colds. It also could be he may have a bit of congestion that may improve with saline and a humidifier while teething as well. For the most accurate diagnosis & treatment, it's best to consult your doctor first.

It's always there: You don't just have it while you sleep... It's there all the time but you notice it while you are falling asleep because the ambient noise during  the day that would normally mask it is starting to decrease around the house... Viral syndrome: You have symptoms of viral upper respiratory tract infection which requires rest, plenty of fluids and over the counter anticongestants. However your might have otitis media 2/2 viral infection. If you have fever and/or headache or ear pain, you have to see a doctor, because you  might need antibiotics. Your  balance problems can be 2/2 ear infection.

Sleep paralysis: Is a well recognize condition that occurs during REM sleep.  It is of course abnormal and indicates poor chemistry in the center of the brain.  Probably the commonest cause is poor diet, particularly the sweet stuff.

? Inner ear: The inner is responsible for our balance, and since you have as well ringing in your ears for sometime besides those symptoms, it is worth checking with your doctor for a referral to an ENT  doctor for evaluation, unlikely a brain tumor, best wishes

this afternoon, i was drifting off to sleep & heard a weird noise (suction cup like) in both ears. i sat up & didnt hear it again. then i started falling asleep again, & i heard the noise again. what is this? & can i prevent it from happening again?

: The eustachian tube helps move mucus created in the middle ear membranes to the throat. It also allows air to enter to maintain the equal pressure across the ear drum that permits normal function/hearing. You don't want it to remain closed or the system will not maintain normal function. The cure of any bothersome would depend on the cause(s) that are making this bothersome
