last year in july after having xrays of both knees that showed bone on bone,i had the first cortisone shot in my left knee and the third shot in my right knee.orthopedic surgeon  recommends both knees be replaced asap.since i have much unfinished work to do before risking the possibility of a longer than usual recovery.i am doing strengthening exercises and ride bicycle,just rode thirty miles.what else can i do

Severe knee arthrit : Strengthening the supporting muscles is very important along with getting down to your best weight possible. Certainly a BMI below 30 and maybe more like 25. When to exercise swimming, biking. Very low impact exercise. Glucosamine can be used but with severe arthritis it may be minimal. Gel injections can help some before replacement.

Not sure of ?: So sorry you waited that long. I know i try very hard to avoid being late but sometimes emergencies and other patients' demands do happen. If you are asking why he/she is referring you to another specialist likely to give you the best outcome. If you aren't happy you certainly can seek a different specialist.

Depends what you --: need. Orthopods treat Bone problms (fractures/breaks, cysts, lesions), joint problems (arthritis, etc), muscles, tendons, nerves, ligament injuries or lesions. Carpal Tunnel release is a common procedure we do, Joint replacements, fixing broken bones, ACL reconstruction, Rotator cuff tears etc, etc.
Discuss with your PCP (if you have some specific problem, that I might not have touched upon).

Slice of heaven: Orthopedic surgeons typically start their day early in the morning, see patients in the hospital, attend educational conferences or teach residents and fellows. They see patients in the office or clinic, and have a couple of days dedicated to doing surgery. Overall, it's very rewarding to see patients being restored to their pre-injury state.  Most of us love what we do.

Yes: Hi, I am an orthopaedic radiologist. I started off on the path to become an ortho surgeon & ultimately ended up choosing radiology instead.

Ortho is an excellent field.  If you become an ortho surgeon you will have the opportunity to be a critical part of the healthcare team. Treating fractures, sports injuries, trauma patients, back disease. It is very satisfying being able to help those in need.

Otho Surgery work hr: I am not an orthopedic surgeon but i can tell you that there is no such thing as a "shift" for them. I know of no surgical specialty as dedicated to their patients as are the orthopods.  They typically spend a very long day in the or, see patients in their office and then may have a few minutes with their families only to be called back to the hospital to handle emergency orthopedics.  Thank god.
