Otho Surgery work hr: I am not an orthopedic surgeon but i can tell you that there is no such thing as a "shift" for them. I know of no surgical specialty as dedicated to their patients as are the orthopods. They typically spend a very long day in the or, see patients in their office and then may have a few minutes with their families only to be called back to the hospital to handle emergency orthopedics. Thank god.

Depends: It all depends on their practice or subspecialty. A foot and ankle surgeon may work from 7am - 3pm and be done for the day, while a trauma orthopod may have scheduled cases from 730am until 5pm, and then have emergency cases well into the next day, or even work that day as well. Unlike other jobs, surgery typically doesn't work "shifts", but instead has call requirements.
