Many times a person: With this condition may have a torn plantar plate. You can continue with conservative therapy as long as you are painfree but if pain persists surgery may be your better option.

i only wear orthopedic flipflops &never shoes. i dont wear socks. im wondering what the scientific (phisiological?) reason my toenails are strong & never break, yet my fingernails-which im never hard on whatsoever-always break & split all my life?

: Chronic dry brittleness of fingernails is usually due to excessive dryness from repeated washing and drying of the fingernails. Whereas soft,brittle fingernails are due to excess moisture from frequent exposure to detergents and other cleansing agents. A dermatologist can evaluate you and advise you further if you still have concerns.

i have very high arches and whenever i walk, my feet roll outward. so i got orthopedic shoe inserts (walkfit platinum). my stride seems to be corrected, but the outer edges of my shoes are still wearing down. why is this? what can be done to fix it?

: The generic appliance may not have corrected the over-supination of your foot to the point it fully aligns. If the appliance has relieved your foot pain or other issues you can accept this as it is. Or you can seek out the professional skill of a podiatrist that will come up with an appliance that is specific to your needs.

my shoe size is 16 6e and would like a thinner foot so that it doesn't cause a long term financial strain?

Much cheaper,: and healthier, is to keep your feet as they are, unless there is a problem standing / walking /running, and as far as I know there is no such surgeon

i'm still having pain from a proximal phalanx fracture.  it hurts on the bottom of my foot.  i'm in an orthopedic shoe which also hurts when i step. ?

See ortho again: It really depends upon how long ago the fracture was, but if you are having more pain than expected, you need to see the orthopedist again. They may be able to adjust your shoe or make other suggestions.

podiatrist diagnosed 5th metatarsal stress fracture near toe even though it's not on x ray.  pain & swelling when walking and swimming.  could it be tendonitis instead?  can foot heal without an orthopedic shoe, which feels worse than sneaker?

Leave ortho shoe on: It is possible to have a fracture that isn't seen on xray.  It is important to follow the podiatrists instructions in order for the stress fracture to heal properly.  If there is a problem with the ortho shoe I would recommend letting the podiatrist know to see if there is another option.

Big feet: this is a big foot size for age but I wouldn't worry as long as he is proportional and growing at a normal rate otherwise. 
There are some conditions that can yield excessive growth, so you will want to make sure he is followed regularly. It is important to have a yearly checkup to evaluate his growth and health overall.
