Fungus in the mouth: The layman term is yeast-infection or thrush. It is a fungal infection (candida albicans) which is quite common infants and can be easily treated by med such as nystatin. In adult, this can happen following antibiotic treatment, oral steroid use as in those for asthma/copd etc...But should be considering immunocompromised states such as hiv/cancer etc..As risk factors. Possibly...Yes: The irritation to the oral cavity and possible extension of thrush/candidiasis to the back of the throat could be enough to cause coughing.  Thrush is easily treated, so you should see someone to have the problem treated and see if it makes the coughing resolve.  That being said, coughing can be caused by a very wide range of issues: infection, medication, allergies, and much more. Get it checked.

Great difference: Oral candidiasis does produce clinging white plaque in the oropharyngeal cavity, but the white areas of leukoplakia are premalignant or malignant and involve the epithelium (skin of the mouth) itself

Wipe: Usually the white coating will wipe away leaving a red lesion, often tender, with a yeast infection. Most leukoplakia will not wipe away and is not tender, unless associated with other afflictions like lichen Planis. Medical history of medications and associated disorders are important determining the source.  See dentist.

No: Candida sp. The causative organisms in thrush are normal oral flora.  Thrush occurs when the normal balance is disturbed by taking antibiotics and allowing yeast overgrowth or by defects in the normal host immunity such as in aids patient.  The disease is not contageous between people.

Thrush and spot? : Ask her pediatrician to get a look at the white spot at her next visit.  Do any family members have such a "spot" does she have any other areas like this? How large is it? What shape is it?  How is the baby's growth? This may or may not be related to the thrush.  Thrush is a thick white coating on her tongue which you cannot scrape off.   This will require a prescription anti fungal  treatment.

Oral Thrush: Although oral thrush can affect anyone, it's more likely to occur in babies and in people who wear dentures, use inhaled corticosteroids or have compromised immune systems. Oral thrush is a minor problem if you're healthy, but if you have a weakened immune system, symptoms of oral thrush may be more severe and difficult to control.

It's usually a: Clinical look for white cheesey clumps on the tongue tonsils and throat...We don't culture it.  The treatment is a script, ketoconazole or monistat.
