Soaks & Abx: You have to dry the area out, and treat the infection with oral antibiotics an possibly anti fungal medications. Epsom salt soaks, betadine solution soaked gauze between and toes and avoid closed shoes.

my big toe that is infected. it started off swollen and sore along the side and now it is open with a red like skin coming out with pus. it's very painful i can't wear any shoe or even socks not even a blanket can rub against it. advice? been a month

Accepted Answer

Infection: You likely have an "ingrown" toenail. Consider seeing your PCM or a podiatrist so that this can be treated. Oral antibiotics may be needed as well as removal of a piece of nail. In the meantime you can soak in epsom salts.

i hike a lot, and sometimes the area between my toes gets a think extra layer of callus that really hurts. i accidentally ripped it, and clear fluid came out which i quickly soaked up with a tissue. it's partially open still. what should i do?

: Wash the affected area and feet and keep the area dry. Apply triple antibiotic cream to the raw area to prevent/treat infection. You may wish to consult a podiatrist for preventive measures against the calluses.

Keep clean with peroxide and bandage
if foot is swollen, warm to touch and red go to er immediately.

what can i do to treat it? it's painful. i scratched the top of my foot during my sleep and woke up with a open sore. it now has a scab with redness around it.

If : If the redness is lessening and the wound is otherwise healing, i suggest keeping it clean and let your body take care of the rest.  If the redness is not improving or getting larger, or if you are diabetic, have poor circulation, or any reason to think your immune system is weakened, you should see a primary care doctor for evaluation and treatment (or if significantly worsening, go to an er or urgent care). : People cut their feet and swallow a mouthful of water while bathing in the sea every day without any untoward complications. The more you swim in the sea the better you become at avoiding doing that. Bowling Green is a long way from the sea and in the time it has taken to get home you have not ailed so the answer is "yes you are O.K."

: Your mother should go immediately to the nearest emergency room to have her finger evaluated and treated. Not sure what you mean by her “finger is dying” but she may have an infection that requires intravenous antibiotics or even a surgical intervention. Do not wait on this-take her to the nearest ER immediately!! Do not let it get any worse! Best of luck to her!!

Most Likely: If you dropped that much weight on your toe it is almost certainly broken.  I recommend you see a podiatrist right away for an x-ray and treatment.
