i have a really sore throat, it hurts like crazy to swallow, ear's hurt and cannot pop, one side of my throat is bigger, hurts to eat and drink.

Dr. can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin can help decrease throat pain.

Throat pain: Several reasons for throat pain exist, but for someone your age there are 2 primary ones. Tonsils and adenoids are a common reason for pain and can be treated with antibiotics, maybe even surgery. Wisdom teeth, especially impacted ones can also cause pain in your throat. A quick exam by your physician can probably solve it.

: Sorry that we can't use picture upload on this portion of HealthTap. One possibility is very common- tonsil stones. These are caused by accumulation of material in pits on the surface of the tonsils. Talk to your regular Dr for visualization and potentially removal. Unfortunately, tonsil stones do come back, so it might be an ongoing problem.

Ear infection?: An ear infection can cause pain in the throat and vice versa. Symptomatic care for the ear and throat pain can be helpful. You might see your doc for an evaluation if this doesn't get better in a few days.

Concerning: At your age, there is reason to be concerned about cancerous lesions forming that are mostly caused by aggressive strains of human papilloma virus (hpv). If you still have your tonsils, it could be an infectious process on that side. You could even have throat pain on one side with laryngopharyngeal reflux, a type of acid reflux. You should go in as soon as possible for a laryngoscopy by an ent.
