At 21 is tonsillitis: See your doctor , after examination will treat you with antibiotics , current practice of medicine rarely need removal, don't worry about cancer.

Ibuprofen: You can take up to four 200mg pills 4x daily.  When you see your doctor they can talk about prescription medication such as antibiotics and possibly oral steroids for pain/swelling.

Tonsillitis is going to injure tissue and leave such debris.If it was tested and found to be  strep, and treated with a penicillin drug, that will kill it.If it was viral (most are),no treatment is needed but there will still be tissue injury that must take time to heal. If this worries you, see the doc. If the kid is thriving, let her be.

Yes: Yes the white spots are called exudates and they can be seen both with viral or bacterial tonsillitis. The appearance of white spots is frequently seen with strep throats so it would be a wise idea to see your GP and get swabs done to rule out a stew throat. However if you are feeling that you are improving then there is no need for this.

Takes longer: Sometimes it takes longer for the exudates to resolve, depending on the germ that is causing it and the antibiotic that is used.

Yes - consider: If they continue to give you so much trouble, i think you should get in to to see an ENT surgeon (ear, nose, throat) and get a good evaluation and assessment.
