See an ENT: Unusual to have drainage from only one side. Recommend evaluation by an ENT to rule out anatomic problem or the rare nasal CSF leak.

Dr. can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold virus, influenza (Tamiflu may be needed), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, is with moderate or high fever, or with much coughing or worrisome symptoms. Throat lozenges may temporarily lessen throat pain.

Otolaryngologist: If this is a recent development after a common cold, try nasal irrigations with warm salt water and applying heat or inhaling steam vapors help open blockage of nasal passages. For short term using a decongestant nasal spray(if you're pregnant check with your obgyn first)  reduces swollen membranes. However if this is a chronic problem you may have nasal polyp; an otolaryngologist is  needed.

what can i do if i have one stuffed nostril? i used to have a runny nose and the stuffed nostril changes sides about every hour or so.

Check with ENT: You may have nasal polyps or other issues such as allergy, deviated septum, sinusitis etc. Check with ent.

for the last week or so when i blow my nose in the morning there is a little blood, after the first few blows is gone. its light red. mostly only the right nostril. also my nose is congested one nostril then it switches. no runny nose. allergies?

Nose bleed : The membrane that covers the inside of your nose is quite thin and has a great deal of blood supply. If the membrane becomes dry or irritated it can bleed a limited amount. Usually if the bleeding becomes difficult to stop or is mixed with discolored mucus is important to see your doctor to determine other causes like sinus infection or a deeper abrasion of the inside of the nose.

Sore in Nose: Picking the scab off may be the reason this is not healing.  Try leaving it alone and see if it heals.  Place a small bit of Neosporin or even vas aline on it a couple of times a day.  This will keep it moist and prevent the scab which is irritating you.  If kit continues to not heal then you should have it evaluated.

Sinus infection: Sounds like a sinus infection from the history you give, you should see your physician for possible treatment.

Viral infection: Sounds like a virus. Viruses love to mess with multiple body systems at the same time. Wash your hands and keep from others while you have symptoms. Even without fever, vomiting and nausea, an infection from a virus is most likely.

ER: Take your baby to your doctor or emergency room to have candy extracted.  Trying to extract it yourself may make it worse.

is it unhealthy to hold one nostril and blow to clear out the other? if so, why? alternatives?

Accepted Answer

Should be OK..: Blowing too hard and injure the nasal cavities or even pop the eardrums...But gentle blowing to clean out the goo should be fine...
