Bloody stool: Blood in the stool is a sign of disease in the colon or rectum. Most often, if it is "red" it is from the lower GI tract from hemorrhoids--meaning in or near the rectum. If it is dark or black, it has been in the GI system for a while, and its source is more remote. A good exam is in order and the source of the blood should be determined.

Yes: Your stools will emit odors produced by the germs that inhabit the intestines. I recall that the gas produced by germ effect on beer &amp; smoked oysters could clear a room, while usual feeds did not. You can change your dominant gut germ balance by ingesting probiotics. That may solve any odd odor issue you are concerned about.

can you take a stool softener everyday? im taking calcium and its making me a bit constipated. and is you can, beside miralax, whats the best one to take?

: Yes, you can take stool softener everyday. The most commonly used stool softener is docusate sodium (Colace), 100 mg, one or twice a day.
You can try a different formula of calcium to see if you are less constipated. If you take the most common one, calcium carbonate or Tums, you can try oyster shell or calcium carbonate, etc.

i had a hard stool this morning & i used my finger to help get it out. i defecated again in the evening and one of my stools had a bit of bloody bright red mucus on top of it. could it be cancer & do i need to go see a doctor? i'm so worried?

: Bright red blood lining the outside of poop is fresh &amp; originates from a scratch or tear in the outlet. These are common after hard, lumpy or rapid emptying triggers a break in the skin. They often self heal. Dark /purple blood mixed inside the poop would represent partially broken down blood originating from higher up &amp; would suggest worrisome problem. Confirm with the doc if you wish.

one doc did short colonoscopy and said it looks like piles.another doc did proctoscopy n said anal fissure n hyprtropic anal papila.wht shud i believ.i also hv narrow flat stool.palpable bumps in anus .i also feel a bit discomfort in ass while siting?

Anus problems : I would believe the one who you thought did the best job. In general the deeper you look the more you can see and diagnose. Discuss with your teams. Wonder about STD?

can i take an expired gas x extra strength? i took one, it is 5 months old. will it harm me??i have lots of gases and a bit of soft stool. what can i take if i have problems sleeping? i tool a benadryl 25 mg 2 to 3 days ago. i appreciate your help?

: Expiration dates indicate that a medication will start to lose effectiveness. It will not harm you but may not be as effective. Gas X is useful for counteracting excess gas production. Take a probiotic with fiber for soft stool. Benadryl is a good occasional medication for problems sleeping, but you should talk to your Dr about the cause of your insomnia and ways to manage bedtime routines.

Yes: Fiber is the answer. Even though you mentioned fiber trials, I wonder if you took enough, and incorporated (non soluble) high fiber foods in your diet
Think: kale (chips work too) pumpkin seeds, pop corn, chick peas (hummus is ok), grapefruit, oranges, cabbage, Brussels sprouts).
Citrucel is not gassy, but oat bran, wheat bran work well. Bake oat bran muffins with flax seed meal and enjoy daily.

Blood in stool: Blood,especially bright red, May simply be from hemorrhoids or anal fissure. Other more serious causes include inflammatory bowel disease,diverticulosis or growths like polyps or even malignant tumors. Have your physician examine you for diagnosis although I doubt serious disease in your case.

i did one fit stool test back in march, it was negative. i have read you should do more then one test. should you do two tests same day with same or different sample or wait a day or two to do the second test?

: A single negative FIT a year is generally adequate. If you plan to repeat the test you should do on stool from different days.
