Keloid: This means there is inflammation and I would like for you to see a dermatologist who specializes in keloid. They can inject into the scar to decrease the inflammation. Why it is inflamed now is unclear. Usually evidence of inflammation with wrong foods and sometimes clothing.

Scars: depends on how old they are.  the young ones less than a few weeks could signify infection the old ones &gt; 3 to 4 weeks could signify hypertrophic scar or early keloid formation.  check with the doctor who created the scars in the first place.  That is the place to go first.

Sounds like a keloid: but it could be delayed infection.  Have a dermatologist look at it.  Or your original surgeon, if he/she is still available.  I doubt that it is skin cancer, but this is also a possibility however unlikely.

Very old?: A consult w/ a plastic surgeon may offer ideas - but otherwise, old scars are not a self-help challenge. You could try to consider them to be badges of honor to the extent that they reflect how much you've done to improve yourself. Others you don't want to be that close to can simply know that you had injuries in the past - it's none of their business. Ask a plastic surgeon for opinion. Best!
