Depression: Please start w/a visit to your family doc.  He/she can rule out or identify and medical issues going on.  Then see a clinical psychologist.  One possibility is as treatment called cognitive psychology.  Peace and good health.

No: Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a condition where the patient has obsessions (ruminative thoughts about death or contamination) or compulsions (ordering things, rituals).  High dose SSRI medications are the treatment of choice, or the tricyclic drug clomipramine.  Time to relief of symptoms is quite variable, there is no minimum.  Often the patient will need to be on medication indefinitely.

Through an exam: Ocd or obsessive compulsive disorder is diagnosed by taking a thorough history, completing a mental status examination, a neurological exam and reviewing pertinent medical history and medications. Laboratory or radiological or other studies may also be needed.

patient has severe contamination ocd. have takenfluvoxamine 25mg for 3 wks but saw no improvement in symptoms. plan to increase to 50mg ( psychiatrist advice). 1 can i expect improvement in symptoms at higher dose. 2. what to expect for side effecr?

: Obsessive compulsive disorder is diagnosed on the basis of compulsive activities, thoughts, impulses that significantly impair function. It is most commonly treated with Cognitive Behavioral. If it is still a major factor in your life, impairing normal function, you should see a therapist about getting treatement. Many people successfully overcome this disorder.

OCD: First of all I would not use the word "cure" when dealing with any psychological problem. To answer your question - it is possible for people to reduce OCD  symptoms so they do not significantly interfere in their life. There are some good resources on the internet to help you understand some basic principles and tools. Seek professional help if you can't resolve the problem by yourself .

is a good mental health therapist as good as a psychiatrist for ocd?

They are different: A psychiatrist is an md that has gone through medical school. He/she will evaluate your symptoms, rule out possible medical reasons for your symptoms and prescribe treatment which may involve both medications and psychotherapy. A good therapist does not have medical training but is experienced in psychotherapy. They can recommend therapy but may end up referring you to a psychiatrist for evaluatio.

Anxiety and depress: There is no reason to feel shame. Anxiety and depression is a disease like any other disease.  It is treatable and does not need to stay with you your entire life .  It will require some medication, so keep your appointments with the psychiatrist.  You also need to see a therapist to help you deal with the feelings you have.  With some help you can get through this and live a normal happy life.

Not anxiety?: Both ocd and mdd have anxiety as a component. If your doctor is giving you medication for one or both of these, they should help with anxiety over time. Noise sensitivity is fairly common with ocd.
