what are the duties of a home health nurse?

HH Nursing: In order to receive home health paid by medicare (or your insurance) you must have two things: a skilled need and you must be home bound. Skilled needs can include all kinds of things: wound care, physical therapy, medication monitoring, intravenous medications, etc. The hh nurse is responsible for creating a plan of care and monitoring which includes weekly visits, at the minimum.

Let doc know: Make sure you test and see or inform your doc. While it is likely that you have the infection, other infections cannot be ruled out and it will be critical to have proper and timely treatment in case something else is going on.

Depends: Stitches are of two types  gut, which self dissolves and is usually clear in color or yellowish  and silk, which is usually black.  If threads are black, you may wish to revisit the nurse to make sure all remnants were removed.

You are overwhelmed: I suggest a nurse for when you are overwhelmed whether it be emotionally or physically. There may be treatments you cannot physically or emotionally do, ie wound care or IV fluids or injections.

when you go to a nursing home and everyone in a chair is in the lobby near the nurses, is that ok?

Not great: If they are there for a short time, ok.  If it is all day, they are missing individual and group activities and the lack of such activities can actually cause and not prevent agitated behaviors.

?Pap smear: The vaginal exam with a PAP smear, and "assessment of your cervix," especially with the use of a speculum and the tool used to acquire cervical cells for the pap smear, may cause some minor bleeding.  Be sure to follow-up with the provider for your results of any testing, and especially if any bleeding returns or persists. Best wishes.
