i had numbness in one finger few weeks ago after waking up and today i wake up to my lips being numb should i be concerned?

Depends. : If these are fairly brief changes in your sensation,  then it probably doesn't require an evaluation.  But if the symptoms last days and days,  then you probably should be seen... Perhaps by a neurologist.

for four days i've woken up with sharp pain and numbness on the back right side of my head.  one day i even had numbness on one of my left fingers?

Pinched nerve?: You may have developed a pinched never some where in your neck or lower part of your braid stem. You need to see a neurologist.

a laceration on my finger has resulted in complete numbness on one side of the finger. should i go see my gp?

Common: Always a good idea to see your PCP. Numbness in lacerations is common and it might reflect swelling and possible nerve damage. Sometimes it persists indefinitely if the nerve ending got damaged.

my arms, mainly left one seems to go numb only when i'm lying my back. what could cause this? numbness is from shoulder blade to pinky and ring finger

Accepted Answer

Varies : The most common cause would probably be a pinched nerve in your neck.  Other potential causes could potentially include thoracic outlet syndrome or one of multiple peripheral nerve entrapment syndromes such as carpal tunnel syndrome.  I would not hesitate to be seen and a good exam could go a long way in determining the cause.

can hypothyroid present as finger numbness and stiffness, with slight decrease in reflexes in one arm?  such as if synthroid (thyroxine) needs adjust in dose?

Unusual: Hypothyroidism can present as carpal tunnel syndrome, which can cause numbness in fingers.  Reflexes become slowed in hypothyroidism, but should remain symmetric, so it should not occur in just one arm.  It is easy to find out if you are on enough synthroid (thyroxine) by getting a free T4 and TSH level done.

severe joint pain in hands/feet morning stiffness numbness. one finger the joint feels like it is sliding back and forth when bending it. what is it?

See your PCP: Severe pain in hands and feet in the morning can indicate an inflammatory condition such as arhritis. The individual finger problem sounds like a tendon issue. The two are not related.  A blood test. by your Primary Care doc may anseer the former, a Hand surgeon should evaluate the latter.

on/off left arm pain over elbow are and upper area months. neck sore, thumb pointer finger sometimes numb especially at night. cervical fusion c6/7 one year prior for right arm numbness. heart risk factor low hdl and ectopic beats. heart or nerve?

: Does not sound cardiac to me, and more likely you have a left carpal tunnel syndrome or a left C6 nerve involvement.  Followup cervical MRI and a left arm EMG will localize and substantiate severity and provide guide for further intervention.  Talk to your doctor about your heart concerns, unlikely but just to be safe.

No: I need to know things like which finger, when it occurs, any associated symptoms, what makes it better, any other medical problems or medications to start to narrow it down see your pcp to get a start.

my pinky finger was smashed in a car door. it is a little swollen but no discoloration and i can move it. it is a numb on one side. is this normal?

Yes: You lucky! no more damage! If you able to move finger - than bones and tendons intact! Little swelling and bruising can happen . As finger was squeezed  nerves in finger got " irritated" and you may feel some tingling , numbness in finger. It should resolve in few days. Ok to use ice and gentle massage. Exercise range of motion - as squeezing soft ball.
