had root canal on bottom left last tooth today. dentist took a x-ray after & said it looked great. put temp filling in. im experiencing pain & soreness in my mouth, and especially in my jaw in one spot. normal? i had multiple injections to get numb.

Not unusual: After those injections and all that work on your mouth and tooth and after the local anesthetic wore off, I don't think your symptoms are concerning at this time. If symptoms worsen or discomfort persists, notify the endodontist.

in a different country and waiting til i get home to see dentist in a week 1/2. how can i numb the pain before then?  will it get worse?

OTC: You can take some otc pain killers such as advil or Aleve (naproxen) or what you normally would take for a headache.  You can try some topical anesthetic such as orajel but that is unlike l to help much if at all.  Avoid hot, cold, sweet foods and eat on the other side.  I would strongly recommend you see a local dentist at least for a diagnosis. Then you could elect to be treated or wait until you get home.

can't make it to dentist until next week. tooth ache. what would help best? could i use lidocaine ointment on my cheek to numb mouth where it hurts?

OTC Pain Meds: Lidocaine ointment is more a topical anesthetic and really won't do much. See if you can move your appointment up, most offices can accommodate an emergency.

i had implants put in over 2  two weeks ago.  i had a a lot of novacane   i am still numb and have an awful burning on my lips.  i my dentist tells me this is normal.  the burning is unbearable.  he says he could last for many weeks.  i wonder if this is

Fear of dentist: It sounds like your fear is getting in the way of needed dental treatment. Investigate working with a dental clinic where you have the option to discuss the procedures you need, before going in for the procedure. Discuss with the dentist the fear you have. Going in for a face-to-face visit(s) may help you start to feel less anxious. Putting off dental care only makes your fear worse.

What started it?: Did you see a dentist who gave you an injection of anesthetic? In which case it typically wears off in a few hours.   Are you numb on the lower jaw after extraction of impacted wisdom teeth?  Then the numbness may be temporary or permanent.  Are you numb from a traumatic injury? Then you need to see a dentist or oral surgeon (specialist) immediately.    See a different dentist for an evaluation.

Many things: Infection, pressure, injection site damage. Since your dentist knows your tooth and exactly what was done, call them to discuss your problem.

how to get rid of numbness after dentist?

Accepted Answer

Massage/warm wet tow: Massaging the numb area gently will increase the blood flow to that spot and help the more rapid metabolism of the anesthetic.
A warm, moist towel will do the same thing. Moving your jaw around to exercise the jaw muscles will help.
Definitely let your dentist know if the numbness lasts more than 5 hours, and don't eat while you're numb.

Topical anesthetic : If the extent of procedure is minimum, and if being done with a laser , minimum or no anesthetic might be an option.

Cheek trauma ≈ 7days: It is uncommon for infection to occur in such a case. However, keep the good oral hygiene and take NSAID or Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain as needed.
