what medications can you not take with an nsaid allergy?

See Allergist: NSAID examples include aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve (naproxen). A true NSAID allergy is actually very rare and your reaction history should be discussed with Allergist to confirm your suspicions. Pseudoallergic reaction can also occur with NSAIDs and are seen in people with aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease or chronic hives. Take acetaminophen (Tylenol) instead until proper evaluation by Allergist

It is marketed as: Antinflammatory so as a pharmacist, without being able to find exact ingredient list would say not safe to try.

No: This type of reaction is not caused by the allergic antibody (ige), and no skin test or blood test is available.  A challenge could be performed, but this is risky. If the drug is required, desensitization is an option.

i've read that nsaid allergy is specific to that one nsaid, but i get hives after both aspirin and motrin. why? can i really not take either one?

Unfortunately u cant: But the good news, is if u really need aspirin, and that is a medical decision, you can get it thru a desensitization protocol up to the desired dose, pls refer to an allergist 4 evaluation.

No safe test: Since Aspirin and NSAID allergy is not typically mediated by ige antibody, allergy blood and skin tests are not helpful. A challenge test where the medication is taken can be done, but the risk may be unacceptable.

See Allergist: In the absence of cartilage damage, pain at the front of the knee due to overuse can be managed with a combination of RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation), anti-inflammatory medications, and physiotherapy. True NSAID allergy very rare so see Allergist to confirm so that this class of medications becomes available to you.

is prednisone 10 mg good for knee swelling. my sports med dr gave me it today.he said i have  arthritis on knee. any treatment for that. nsaid allergy?

my ent gave me neilmed sinus rinse, which contains a solution that has sodium bicarbonate. is this safe for me, since i have aspirin and nsaid allergy? i usually only use plain sodium chloride in my neti pot, so this is new for me?

Not a problem: Sodium bicarbonate does not contain any aspirin or  NSAID like features.

Explain: Your doctor needs to determine if it's an actual allergy or a condition now referred to as AERD or Aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease which also includes NSAIDS (nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen).  RARELY paracetamol / acetaminophen can cause the same condition.  An allergy consultation is usually needed to sort it out.
