i have a pain on the outside of my right nostril. it hurts to touch and feels like it is either swollen or has a lump inside. i had a closer look and it has lots of tiny spots on it too. what could this be?

Infection??: From your scanty description it sounds like it could be a herpes virus infection. See your doc. If it is there are good meds that can help you.

Trigeminal area?: Is this sensation constant, or on and off?  How long has it been going on?

Sometimes irritation to the trigeminal nerve, which supplies sensation to this area, can cause a symptom like this, on one side.  That could be why there is no change in the skin.

If the symptoms have been happening a short time, a rash may still appear however.

Skin question: Could it be acne perhaps? Acne blemishes can hurt when pressed, but resolve in a couple weeks. Then you get more in other places. Some folks get large "cystic" acne, which can be painful and difficult to control without prescription medications. Ask your doctor for help if you keep getting these.

Folliculitis?: It sounds like folliculitis, which is basically an infected hair follicle. You would need to have a doctor take a look in order to confirm, however.

Nasal polyp: It could be a nasal polyp which you'll see in the upper nostril coming down it also might be one of your turbinates which is part of the normal anatomy and they can look red and round. Possible infection: You may have an infection of the hair follicles in the nostril.  If you have been blowing your nose frequently that also may be the cause,  I would get checked for an infection.

Doubt cancer based: on your description.  It could be an inflamed sebaceous cyst, which is common in that area.  If it swells up from time to time or gets a little red, then recedes, it is likely an inflamed skin cyst of some kind.  These are essentially a deep acne cyst.  Don't poke or squeeze it.  Try to have your doctor look at it when it is sore or tender.  It might be easier to diagnose then.
