3 year old patient presents with seizure like symptoms. abnormal bilateral upward vertical eye movement, irrational behavior, loss of balance, slurred speech, confusion. brain mri normal, bloodwork normal, cant get eeg. what could this be?

: It is reassuring that the brain structures appear normal. The EEG and a Pediatric Neurologist should further evaluate. Maintenance of hydration and avoid fever. Toxic exposure, including drugs and lead level should be ruled out. Please follow up with a specialist.

Many things: There are many causes of an abnormal MRI other than cancer. This list is not all inclusive but may give you an idea of the number of disorders causing an abnormality. Vascular causes include stroke , hemorrhage, a-v malformations, demyelination from ms, lymes disease, infectious causes, hiv, abscess, viral infections, metabolic disorders such as wilson's disease, leukodystrophies and age related dis.

: The brain MRI must have been read by the a doc where it was done. You should rely on that report. Discus any concerns with the ordering doc who should alleviate your fears or concerns. For getting another read you have to take it to another radiologist. This forum does not see or interpret images.

Neurologic problem: An electronystagmogram (ENG) checks the neural signals to the eye muscles while your vision or field of view is altered. An abnormality may point to a functional problem (problem with way nerves are firing) or an anatomic problem (some abnormal structure/growth seen on brain MRI). Depending on what / how fast your symptoms developed, functional problems are more likely but talk to your Neurologist

Blepharospasm.:  We call this condition blepharospasm. Botox is it the appropriate treatment. I would suggest you looking into this, because this condition tend to linger.linger.

Don't do it....: If it were that easy there would not be specialists that spend years training to interpret the scan. Be patient and wait for the results.

Usually : Read by radiologist the same day.  Your doctor or doctors associate can call with results as soon as they are back.  Should be back 48-72 hours after having the test done.    Unless Friday.   May take an extra day or two.   If they do not call you.  Call office for results

if a radiologist decides not to use contrast during a brain mri, does it indicate that they have seen nothing abnormal?

Not: necessarily.  That is one possibility.  However, it could also be possible that the non contrast MRI already specifically delineates a particular abnormality, and no contrast is necessary, or that the indication for the MRI is such that contrast would not be routinely employed.
