Probably not: Radiation damage to the lung can be detected functionally on pulmonary function tests.  If your pulmonary function tests are completely normal, it would be unlikely that radiation lung damage was the cause of the fall in 02 saturation.

my ahi on my cpap is normally between 1-3ish. last night it spiked to 4. on occasions i have seen it spike before but it also listed as my mask being off. this time, i only had 2 episodes of the mask being off. concerning?

: These number on the home CPAP machines have more to do with mask fit than anything else. If it is an occasional increase, just be certain the mask is on correctly and you don’t feel a significant leak of air around the edges. If the trend with an increase in the AHI continues, then see your sleep doctor so that the mask fit can be checked by the doctor. Good luck!

what is the normal pressure setting on most cpap machines?

It depends: The pressure is selected  with a CPAP titration which is part of a sleep study. A CPAP machine can be set with variable pressure to adjust to changes during sleep. Common settings are 8 to 11 cm of water.

Cpap: Cpap ensures oxygenation but does not correct the underlying structural causes of the snoring

is it normal to still snore mildly and softly while using a cpap ? my machine says i have about 2 events average per night, which is better than 25 i had prior. but i still snore very mildly some times. do i need bipap?

Accepted Answer

: Is the snoring audible? You may need the mask to be tighter-it could be that the mask is leaking some so you should have that checked. It won’t make any difference-CPAP vs BiPAP-if the mask is leaking. It depends what the “events” are to determine the severity and whether or not it is acceptable to have them. But, make sure the mask is tight enough and not leaking significantly. Good luck!

night-time nasal dry crusting. i wear a cpap. how can i reduce this? am 1 1/2 weeks post-septoplasty. this was normal for me pre-surgery.

You might: Consider trying using an emollient with a oil base, like vaseline on the inside of your nose, or review with your ENT about possible use of an antibiotic ointment if there is a suggestion of vestibulitis.  You should also consider regular saline nasal irrigation - as long as it's OK by your ENT post-surgically.  And review with your ENT about humidifcation of your not only your home but CPAP.

used cpap last night in lab, 1st time. had major issues breathing with mask unless my head was elevated. sleep tech seemed surprised. is this normal?

It can be: occasionally the use of CPAP can initially be difficult until you get use to it.  The pressure in the nose and respiratory tree can feel smothery.  With time and relaxation you should be able to tolerate the CPAP much better.

my resting bp with valsartan 40mg is around 108/63 however in hot weather it drops to 98/58... is that normal or should i adjust the dose? i'm already on the minimum dose. also on cpap?

: Your blood pressure readings are fairly low. I would consider lowering your dose to 20 mg daily. The 40 mg tablet is scored, so you can cut it in half to get the 20 mg dose. Be sure to monitor your BP and check with your PCP about this issue.

Short of breath: Yes that is a normal oxygen level.  See your doctor as to why you are shourt of breath.

i was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea, ahi 8. i'm currently 170lb 5feet 8, neck 17 inches. how much weight do i need to lose to reduce the severity of the apnea to normal without cpap or mandibular device?

: The unfortunate thing is that it is not just about weight loss so it is not how much weight you lose. It is also about the muscle tone of the neck. Focus on keeping a healthy weight and regular exercise to improve muscle tone may help you better. It is also more about your positioning when you sleep that you could see to improve.
